Interview with Risque' Cafe

Tiffany Speaks with CJ of Risque' Cafe

I had the pleasure to sit down with C.J. of Risque' Cafe. C.J. is a woman with a great vision for book clubs and authors. When I first meet her, little did I know we would be working together on great projects for our bookclub as well as other things. C.J. has a passion for putting together events that you wouldn't believe. You can find out more about C.J. and Risque' Cafe @ http://www.therisquecafe.com/.

Tiffany: C.J. tell me about yourself?
C.J. Hello Tiffany where do I start, I was born the child of a sharecropper. But seriously. I'm a person that is very passionate about education and helping others. I feel GOD has given each of us a talent, it is up to us to find out what is it and use it in the most productive and constructive manner.

Tiffany: So, you are currently the creator of Risque' Cafe?
C.J. Yes, I am.

Tiffany: What is the sole purpose of Risque'?
C.J. The Risque Cafe purpose is to create an outlet that will bring more awareness to the Art of Literature, extend authors craft abroad, and promote unity within the literary community.

Tiffany: C.J. when Risque' first started did you have the vision that it would grow to be as poplar as it is?
C.J. No I didn't...I'm still surprised. First, I'm very thankful for all the book clubs. When I say they hold the literary community together, I really mean it. Small or large...they have big hearts and support to the fullest.

The authors have been great as well. GOD blessed them with a gift of creativity and we get a chance to experience and live thru their craft every time we read one of their books. So for me to be a vessell, I'm just thankful.

Tiffany:What's coming soon for Risque Cafe?
C.J. The Risque Cafe is hosting and facilitating a national campaign called Losing 4 Literacy. This campaign will bring more awareness to the literary arts and healthcare plus bring communities together on a local as well as national level. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is a philanthropist at heart to give back and experience a positive life change.

Tiffany: Tell me more about Losing 4 Literacy?
C.J. Losing 4 Literacy is a 12-week weight-loss/wellness challenge organized with the purpose of helping establish a nonprofit organization that will empower inner-city and troubled youths to express themselves in a positive manner, bring awareness to the literary community and promote healthier lifestyles.
At the end of the 12-week challenge, the top 3 teams with the highest percentage of weight loss will be awarded a cash prize, products, books, and more. We even have a surprise celebrity helping with the project. I can't release that information until all the paperwork has been completed and signed.

Tiffany: I hear that you have a Book Fair coming up real soon? What's your goal with the fair?
C.J. Yes, we have a Book Fair at Barnes and Noble in Memphis on April 25 from noon to 4pm. This is part of our kick off for "Losing 4 Literacy". There will be entertainment as will as an opportunity to meet some great authors. As a matter of fact, we have Rory D Sheriff coming in town for the event. We even have a celebrity coming thru to make a special appearance to show his support....All I can say is WOW!!!

Tiffany: Do you have anything special plan for the bookclubs this year?
C.J. We are planning a literary event for the book clubs in Jackson, MS within the month of May....The Risque Cafe Anniversary Celebration in August and a festival in October.
